United Kingdom (UK) Prime Minister Mr. Keir Starmer bets on India's youth to deliver 'Viksit Bharat 2047' vision

The United Kingdom (UK) Prime Minister, Mr. Keir Starmer, met Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi in Mumbai on October 9, 2025, during his first official visit to India, announcing enhanced cooperation across defence, energy, climate, and education sectors. Speaking at a joint press conference, Mr. Keir Starmer emphasised the role of India’s youth in realising the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision and highlighted the rising demand for world-class higher education, announcing that more British universities will establish campuses in India to strengthen the UK’s position as a leading international education provider by 2035. He also unveiled a collaboration to produce Bollywood films in the UK and lauded the Premier League’s support for grassroots football in India through the Community Coach Development Programme in Mumbai.
Addressing global issues, he welcomed the first phase of the Gaza peace deal between Israel and Hamas, calling it a crucial step for hostages and civilians in Gaza. He discussed just and lasting peace in Ukraine with Mr. Narendra Modi, stressing stability in the Indo-Pacific region and cooperation in climate and energy sectors to reduce fossil fuel dependence. Mr. Keir Starmer also underlined India’s importance on the world stage and supported its bid for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council. He concluded by wishing Indians worldwide a joyous festive season, saying, “Happy Diwali. Diwali ki shubhkamnayein.”
