In a significant push towards enhancing regional connectivity, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the newly developed Satna Airport and the upgraded Datia Airport in Madhya Pradesh. The launch, celebrated through on-ground events, marks a transformative step for the Bundelkhand and Baghelkhand regions under the Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik (UDAN) scheme. The event at Datia Airport was attended by the Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Mr. Ram Mohan Naidu. At the same time, the ceremony at Satna saw participation from the Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Mr. Murlidhar Mohol. Dignitaries, including the Governor of Madhya Pradesh, Mr. Mangubhai C. Patel, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mr. Mohan Yadav, and Deputy Chief Ministers of Madhya Pradesh, Mr. Rajendra Shukla and Mr. Jagdish Devda also graced the occasion.
Satna Airport, built by the Airports Authority of India at a cost of Rs. 36.96 crore (US$ 4.32 million), will serve as a key hub for northeastern Madhya Pradesh, improving access to areas like Chitrakoot and Maihar. The terminal spans 768 square metres, with an annual handling capacity of 2.5 lakh passengers. It features modern amenities, a recarpeted runway, and sustainable infrastructure, including 100% LED lighting and water reuse systems. Datia Airport, upgraded at a cost of Rs. 60.63 crore (US$ 7.09 million), offers similar passenger capacity and will operate ATR-72 aircraft initially, with future provisions for A-320 aircraft. The airport connects the spiritually significant town of Datia with the national air grid, boosting tourism and economic activity. The development of both airports is expected to generate employment and drive growth across hospitality, retail, and allied sectors, reinforcing the government's commitment to inclusive infrastructure development.
