India’s consumer economy recorded its strongest Navratri sales in more than a decade, driven by Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms that boosted festive demand across automobiles and consumer electronics. Leading automakers logged record-breaking growth, with Maruti Suzuki reporting 100% growth and 1,65,000 vehicles delivered in just eight days, its best performance in 35 years. Mahindra & Mahindra saw sales jump 60% on the back of strong SUV demand. At the same time, Hyundai and Tata Motors also reported robust sales across key models. Two-wheeler makers like Bajaj Auto and Hero MotoCorp benefited from surging demand, with Hero noting a doubling of showroom footfalls.

Consumer electronics and retail brands also witnessed exceptional sales momentum. Haier posted 85% growth and nearly sold out its Diwali TV inventory, LG Electronics India saw exponential growth, and Reliance Retail, Vijay Sales, and Godrej Appliances reported strong double-digit rises. Overall, retailers and brands across sectors recorded 25-100% sales growth, highlighting improved consumer sentiment, rising middle-class purchasing power, and increased affordability post-GST reforms. With the first half of the festive season contributing 40-45% of annual festive sales, this year’s performance underscores the resilience and strength of India’s consumption-driven economy.
