The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) and Hero MotoCorp (HMCL), the world’s largest manufacturer of motorcycles and scooters, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen industry-academia collaboration in research, education, and employee upskilling for future mobility solutions. The partnership will explore joint research projects, technology transfer, and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, reflecting a strategic alignment between innovation and industry application.
The MoU will enable doctoral scholarships for IIT Madras research scholars, hands-on industry exposure through relevant projects, and tailored degree programmes, including MTech and PhD, for HMCL employees. Additionally, specialised short-term courses will be offered to upskill staff in critical areas such as electric vehicle development, battery materials, motors and controllers, vehicle dynamics, and AI-driven product development. Director of IIT Madras Dr. V. Kamakoti highlighted the partnership’s role in advancing mobility research for Viksit Bharat 2047, while Executive Director, Acting Chief Executive Officer, and Chief Technology Officer of Hero Moto Corp, Mr. Vikram Kasbekar, emphasised its contribution to Atmanirbhar Bharat through homegrown technological development in multi-energy propulsion, electric mobility, and generative AI applications.
