With India emerging as a global destination for live performances, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) is working to simplify the process of organising concerts in the country. Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, Mr. Sanjay Jaju, announced at Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) Frames 2025 that the government aims to double the concert economy, aligning with Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s vision for a vibrant entertainment ecosystem. He highlighted that Indian artists such as Mr. Diljit Dosanjh and Mr. Arijit Singh are performing to packed arenas worldwide and that streamlining domestic concert approvals could further unlock the sector’s potential. One major initiative under development is the revamp of the India Cine Hub website into a single-window clearance system for concert permissions. A beta version is expected to launch by the end of October 2025, ahead of the peak concert season starting in November.
According to a white paper released at the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025, India’s organised live event segment grew by 15% in 2024, generating around Rs. 1,300 crore (US$ 146.5 million) in incremental revenue. The growth ranked second only to digital media within the broader media and entertainment sector. Global artists such as Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, Shawn Mendes, Louis Tomlinson, Martin Garrix, and Enrique Iglesias have recently performed or announced tours in India, signalling rising international interest. A joint FICCI-EY report projects 70-80 large-scale concert days this year, reflecting the robust demand for live entertainment. He also noted that reforms for the broadcasting and direct-to-home segments are under consideration to strengthen the overall media ecosystem.
