Google’s 1-GW Hyperscale Data Centre in Visakhapatnam to Generate US$ 1.13 billion for Andhra Pradesh: Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, Mr. Pemmasani Chandrasekhar

The upcoming 1-GW hyperscale Google Data Centre in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, is projected to generate around Rs. 10,000 crore (US$ 1.13 billion) in revenue for the state, according to Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, Mr. Pemmasani Chandrasekhar. The project, involving an investment of approximately Rs. 1,33,215 crore (US$ 15 billion) over 2026-2030, is expected to create 5,000-6,000 direct jobs and 20,000-30,000 total employment opportunities, while providing essential infrastructure, power, and cooling facilities, thereby generating a substantial multiplier effect on the state’s economy.
The data centre will also house India’s first gigawatt-scale facility and Google’s inaugural Artificial Intelligence (AI) hub in the country, marking a major milestone in Andhra Pradesh’s journey towards becoming a digital and AI-driven hub. The announcement was made during the Bharat AI Shakti event in New Delhi, with dignitaries including Union Minister for Electronics & IT, Mr. Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister of Finance & Corporate Affairs Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, IT Minister, Andhra Pradesh Mr. Nara Lokesh, and CEO, Google Cloud. Mr. Thomas Kurian highlighted the strategic importance of the project for the state and the nation.
