Electric vehicle retail sales in India more than doubled in September 2025, driven by strong demand across passenger and two-wheeler segments, according to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA). Overall, electric passenger vehicle sales rose to 15,329 units, up from 6,191 units in September 2024. Tata Motors led the segment with 6,216 units, a 62% increase YoY. JSW MG Motor recorded 3,912 units, over three times the year-ago figure, while Mahindra & Mahindra sold 3,243 units compared with 475 units in September 2024. Other players included BYD India with 547 units, Kia India with 506 units, Hyundai Motor India with 349 units, BMW India with 310 units, Mercedes-Benz India with 97 units, and Tesla India contributing 64 units.
The two-wheeler electric segment also showed robust growth, rising 15% YoY to 1,04,220 units. TVS Motor led with 22,509 units, up from 18,256 units in September 2024. Bajaj Auto and Ather Energy secured the second and third positions with retail sales of 19,580 units and 18,141 units, respectively. The strong uptake in electric vehicles reflects growing consumer adoption, early festive demand, and increasing infrastructure and model availability across India.
