The Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) and the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on September 24, 2025, to strengthen collaboration in academic, training, and research activities. Signed by Chairman, CBDT, Mr. Ravi Agrawal, and Deputy CAG (Commercial & CRA), Mr. Anand Mohan Bajaj, in the presence of CAG, Mr. K Sanjay Murthy, the MoU aims to enhance professional cooperation, particularly in data-driven technology, and bridge skills gaps between the two institutions.
The partnership will focus on initiatives such as training workshops, joint seminars, sharing audit insights using advanced data analytics, and implementing innovative methods like remote audits in Goods and Services Tax (GST) and other sectors. CAG Mr. K Sanjay Murthy highlighted that the collaboration would promote transparency, operational efficiency, and informed regulatory changes, while supporting capacity development and adaptation to the new simplified IT regime 2025. Chairman, CBDT, Mr. Ravi Agrawal, noted that the MoU will improve tax administration, equip officials with up-to-date knowledge, and facilitate the transition from the Information Technology (IT) Act 1961 to the new IT regime, shifting towards a prudent and non-intrusive approach.
