World Bank says Indian economy to grow at 7.2% in FY18

New Delhi: The Indian economy is expected to grow at 7.2 per cent in F.Y. 2017-18 and further accelerate to 7.5 per cent in F.Y. 2018-19, according to a report by the World Bank. The growth in India had slowed down to 6.8 per cent in 2016-17 due to a combination of weak investments and the impact of demonetisation, however the economy is expected to recover and growth will gradually accelerate to 7.7 per cent by 2019-20. Timely and smooth implementation of the goods and services tax (GST) could prove to be a significant upside risk to economic activity in 2017-18. The expected threats to the economic growth include stress in the financial sector, uncertainty in global environment and fallout of demonetisation on small and informal economy.
