YouTube Shorts surpass trillion views, CEO Mr. Neal Mohan lauds Indian creators

YouTube Shorts, a 60-second video format launched globally in India in 2020, has surpassed 1 trillion views, YouTube CEO MR. Neal Mohan announced, highlighting the significant impact of Indian content creators. Speaking at the YouTube Brandcast 2024 event, he emphasized YouTube's role in empowering individuals to share their stories. He noted that Indian creators are setting global cultural trends. "YouTube is number one in reach and watch time in India, and Shorts, first introduced here, now boast trillions of views," he said.

Additionally, YouTube is India's leading streaming service on Connected TVs (cTV), with viewership growing fourfold over the past 3 years. He acknowledged the diverse business strategies, production teams, and content creation efforts of Indian creators, reshaping entertainment, news, and education on the platform. In response to evolving advertising needs, YouTube has introduced new ad formats for cTV and Shorts, including interactive stickers, animated image ads, Pause Ads, and Branded QR codes. "These innovations will help brands leverage the cultural impact and interactive potential of Shorts and cTV," said a company statement. Vice President of Marketing at Google India, Mr. Shekar Khosla, added, "YouTube is central to India's connection, entertainment, and inspiration, and we are committed to enhancing the Connected TV experience with seamless ad formats that connect marketers with their audiences across all screens."
