Women’s participation in technical education in India has seen a remarkable rise, reaching 17% in 2025 from just 4% in 2022, with the fastest growth occurring in advanced fields such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), prompt engineering, cybersecurity, robotics, and data science, according to a report by UGC platform College Vidya. The most significant surge is in AI and Machine Learning programs, where women now constitute 20% of enrolments, up from 5% in 2024. Overall enrolments on the platform between January and August 2025 numbered 17,685, highlighting a strong upward trend in female engagement in deep-tech education.
Women now represent 25% of MCA Cybersecurity students and 15% of doctoral candidates in Generative AI. The report also noted that Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh together account for 70% of these enrolments, with tier II and tier III towns contributing significantly to this growth. Co-Founder & COO of College Vidya, Mr. Rohit Gupta, highlighted that evolving cultural attitudes, accessible online learning platforms, and inspiring industry role models are creating new opportunities for women, positioning them as key contributors to India’s technological advancement and future-ready workforce.
