Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi inaugurated the new terminal building of Veer Savarkar Airport at Port Blair

On July 18, 2023, the new integrated terminal building of Veer Savarkar International Airport at Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands was virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi.

The new terminal building, which had a construction cost of approximately US$ 86.5 million (Rs. 710 crore), will be able to accommodate 50 lakh passengers annually.

Speaking on the growing need for Port Blair's airport facilities to be expanded, the Prime Minister noted that the new terminal has increased the number of tourists it can accommodate to 11,000 from the terminal's previous capacity of 4,000. He claimed that more flights and tourists will bring more jobs to the area and the new terminal building will also enhance the ease of travel and ease of doing business.

According to Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, the development model is all-inclusive and encompasses the development of every region and segment of the society, and every aspect of life, such as connection, education, and health. He further informed that Andaman and Nicobar received a budget of US$ 5.84 billion (Rs. 48,000 crore) during the nine years of the current administration.

 Furthermore, Mr. Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Minister of Civil Aviation highlighted that Andaman & Nicobar Islands is one of the most beautiful gems of the country and the Veer Savarkar International Airport represents the incredible biodiversity of flora and fauna. “Apart from this airport, three additional airports in Shibpur, Car Nicobar, and Campbell, as well as four water aerodromes in Shaheed Dweep, Swaraj Dweep, and Port Blair, will be established by the Government of India with an investment of US$ 18.3 million (Rs. 150 crore),” he added.
