Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana achieves sales worth US$ 119 million (Rs. 1,000 crore) in October 2024

The Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) has achieved a significant milestone by recording sales worth US$ 119 million (Rs. 1,000 crore) in October 2024. This marks a notable improvement compared to the previous year, when this target was reached in December 2023. The growing trust in affordable, quality medicines is evident as citizens increasingly rely on over 14,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras nationwide. PMBJP's efforts have reduced out-of-pocket healthcare expenses and made essential medicines more accessible. Notably, in September 2024, the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI) reported monthly sales of US$ 23.8 million (Rs. 200 crore).

Over the past decade, the number of Kendras has surged by over 170 times, growing from just 80 in 2014 to over 14,000 today, covering nearly all districts. By 2026, the government aims to establish 25,000 Kendras nationwide. The PMBJP product basket now includes 2,047 medicines and 300 surgical devices, covering major therapeutic areas like cardiovascular, anti-cancer, anti-diabetic, anti-infective, anti-allergic, gastrointestinal, and nutraceuticals. Approximately 1 million people visit these Kendras daily, reinforcing the initiative's role in promoting equitable healthcare across India.
