As India celebrates the third anniversary of the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, its transformative impact on infrastructure development is increasingly evident. The initiative promotes a coordinated, efficient, and integrated approach to infrastructure, emphasizing multi-modal connectivity that combines road, rail, air, and waterways. PM Gati Shakti has assessed over 208 major infrastructure projects valued at more than US$ 180 billion, addressing 156 critical gaps in infrastructure, particularly in last-mile connectivity for sectors like coal, steel, fertilizers, and food distribution. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) plans over 8,891 km of new roads, while the Ministry of Railways has outlined more than 27,000 km of new railway lines. The initiative is projected to drive investments at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15.3% over the next five years, with cumulative spending expected to reach US$ 1.45 trillion.

Looking ahead, PM Gati Shakti aims to enhance its focus on district-level projects and smart city development, promoting inclusive growth across all regions. Discussions are underway to establish a PM Gati Shakti District Master Plan portal to decentralize infrastructure planning. The success of Gati Shakti has attracted international interest, with countries such as Nepal, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka keen to adopt aspects of the initiative. As India positions itself as a global leader in infrastructure, the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan is set to be instrumental in achieving the Viksit Bharat Vision, laying the foundation for India’s transition to a developed nation by 2047.
