MSDE partners with Meta for AI Assistant in Skill India Mission and 5 Centres of Excellence in NSTIs

The Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has partnered with Meta to launch two major initiatives: an AI Assistant for the Skill India Mission and the establishment of five Centres of Excellence (CoEs) in Virtual Reality (VR) and Mixed Reality (MR) at National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs) in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Jodhpur, Chennai, and Kanpur. Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) Mr. Jayant Chaudhary, emphasized that integrating technologies like AI, VR, and MR into the Skill India ecosystem will democratize access to advanced technologies, offering personalized learning pathways to empower India’s youth. As part of this initiative, an AI-powered chatbot using Meta’s open-source Llama model will be developed to enhance the Skill India Digital (SID) Portal, providing users with 24/7 support. Accessible through WhatsApp in English, Hindi, and Hinglish, the chatbot will assist users in locating skilling centres, searching course topics, exploring job listings, accessing interactive course content, and offering valuable analytics to optimize the platform. Sarvam AI, the technical partner for this project, will oversee the development and deployment during a 6-month pilot phase.

The five CoEs will also be equipped with advanced VR technology, enabling learners and instructors to develop and enhance their skills in immersive and engaging environments. These CoEs will provide realistic simulations, increasing student engagement and accessibility to skill development training. Skillveri, the technical partner for the CoEs, will offer cutting-edge VR and MR resources, curriculum, and training for learners and instructors. This collaboration with Meta aligns with India’s AI Mission, aiming to foster a collaborative e-governance framework for adopting impactful AI solutions that catalyse large-scale socio-economic transformation. Both the AI assistant and the CoEs represent significant steps forward in revolutionizing how students interact with course content and prepare for the future.
