Make quality a centrestage of industry, a default setting in product manufacturing: Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Mr. Piyush Goyal

During the valedictory address at the Indian Foundation for Quality Management (IFQM) Symposium in New Delhi, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Piyush Goyal, urged industry leaders to prioritize quality in manufacturing processes, making it a default standard rather than an optional feature for consumers. He commended IFQM for its industry-led initiative on quality, noting that changing mindsets pose a significant challenge to India's commitment to quality. He highlighted Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Zero Defect and Zero Effect’ as a cornerstone of governance aimed at transforming India into a developed nation. He emphasized that sustainable manufacturing practices, aligned with a green economy, are crucial for the journey towards Viksit Bharat.

He noted a substantial increase in Quality Control Orders (QCOs), which have expanded from 14 orders covering 106 products in 2014 to 174 orders covering 732 products over the past decade. He cited the positive impact of quality control on the toy manufacturing sector, leading to increased exports. To position India as a globally recognized brand, quality must be prioritized. He called on industry leaders to collaborate with the Government to promote quality within the MSME sector through the QCO ecosystem and share best practices to align with global standards. He underscored that India's export competitiveness should derive from self-reliance rather than subsidies, declaring that quality is a task and a duty towards achieving Viksit Bharat.
