JLR plans to start making flagship Range Rover model in India

Under Tata Motors' ownership, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is poised to begin local assembly of its flagship Range Rover model and the Range Rover Sport in India for the first time. This strategic move complements the existing assembly of several JLR models at its Pune plant, including the Range Rover Velar, Range Rover Evoque, Jaguar F-PACE, and Discovery Sport. Chairman of Tata Sons, Mr. N Chandrasekaran, lauded this development as a pivotal moment for the Indian subsidiary, highlighting the confidence in the Indian market. He credited the significant journey of JLR, starting from its acquisition in 2008 by Tata Sons chairman Mr. Ratan Tata.

JLR India managing director, Mr. Rajan Amba, emphasized the historical significance of this milestone, noting that these models have never been produced outside the UK, underscoring the pivotal role of the Indian subsidiary in JLR's global operations. The local assembly initiative is expected to lead to a significant price reduction of 18-22% for the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, making these luxury vehicles more accessible to Indian consumers. JLR aims to double its sales in India over the next 2-3 years, aligning with its global strategy. The luxury automaker plans to introduce at least 6 new models, including internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicles (EV), capitalizing on the country's growing segment of high-net-worth individuals.
