Infosys, India’s second-largest IT services firm, plans to hire up to 20,000 freshers in FY25, the company announced, following a decline in headcount over 6 consecutive quarters. The hiring will include both on-campus and off-campus recruitment. Infosys CFO Mr. Jayesh Sanghrajka stated that with utilization at 85.3%, the company has limited capacity, and the hiring decision will be based on growth projections. This hiring announcement follows a reduction in headcount, with the company reporting a decrease of 1,908 employees in the first quarter of FY25, bringing the total headcount to 315,332. This represents a YoY decline of 20,962 employees.

Infosys’ hiring target aligns with industry trends, with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), its larger peer, targeting 40,000 new hires. TCS onboarded 11,000 freshers in the first quarter of FY25 after experiencing a three-quarters headcount reduction, ending with 606,998 employees. HCLTech, India’s third-largest IT services player, also announced plans to hire 10,000 freshers in FY25 despite a reduction of over 8,000 employees due to the conclusion of its joint venture with State Street. Regarding attrition rates, Infosys reported 12.7% for the first quarter of FY25, slightly up from 12.6% in the previous quarter and down from 17.3% YoY. TCS had an attrition rate of 12.1%, while HCLTech’s rate increased to 12.8% from 12.4% in the preceding quarter.
