India set to lead 6G revolution; our telecom sector aggressive: Scindia

India is poised to lead the global 6G landscape, as stated by Minister of Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Ms. Jyotiraditya Scindia, who described the country's telecom sector as "aggressive" and "ambitious." At the inauguration of the India Mobile Congress and World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA) 2024, he highlighted the Bharat 6G Alliance's goal to contribute at least 10% of patents to 6G standardization. He noted the rapid rollout of 5G in India, achieving coverage in 98% of districts and 90% of villages within 21 months. He emphasized Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi's vision to position India as a first mover in 6G technology.

He underscored the importance of the Indian Mobile Congress and the International 6G Symposium in showcasing advancements in 6G and establishing design principles for future telecommunications. He also pointed out that recent amendments to the Telecommunications Act 2023 aim to modernize India's telecom framework, addressing key areas such as satellite communications and cyber security. The IMC 2024 is expected to attract over 400 exhibitors, nearly 900 startups, and representatives from more than 120 countries, with around 3,200 delegates attending the WTSA assembly. He expressed confidence that these events would foster innovation and highlight India's emergence as a global hub for telecommunications.
