India's peak power demand may cross 400 GW mark by 2031-32, says Power Secretary

India's peak power demand is poised to exceed the projected 384 GW mark and potentially surpass 400 GW by 2031-32, according to Power Secretary Mr. Pankaj Agarwal. At the CII-Smart Metering Conference, Agarwal noted that peak power demand had already reached 250 GW in May. He emphasized the need for an installed power generation capacity of 900 GW to meet these future demands.

The government had initially projected this year's peak power demand to be 260 GW. He indicates it could be reached by September. However, recent data shows a decline in peak power demand to 209 GW as the monsoon season begins.
