Secretary (East) in the Ministry of External Affairs, Mr. Jaideep Mazumdar, announced that Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi will visit Brunei from September 3-4 and Singapore from September 4-5, marking his return to the region after 6 years. He confirmed India's strong interest in semiconductor cooperation with Singapore. "Singapore is well-integrated into the global semiconductor ecosystem with over 20 years of experience. We are keen to explore cooperation in this area and expect the visit to significantly enhance our partnership, particularly as Singapore sets up facilities in India," he stated.

He also highlighted that Singapore's Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) amounted to US$ 11.77 billion last year. Regarding space and defence cooperation with Brunei, he mentioned ongoing collaboration in telemilitary tracking and command, which will be further developed as technology and requirements evolve. He noted that hydrocarbons constitute 60-70% of the bilateral trade with Brunei, totalling around US$ 250 million, with crude oil accounting for about US$ 270 million. Although the figures are modest currently, there is potential for significant growth, particularly in natural gas imports.
