India has 601 million Over the top (OTT) users and 148 million active paid subscriptions, reveals Ormax’s research report

Ormax Media has released the fifth edition of The Ormax Over the Top (OTT) Audience Report: 2025, India’s largest study, sizing and profiling the country’s OTT universe. Conducted in June and July 2025 with a sample of 15,600 respondents across urban and rural India, the report estimates India’s OTT audience at 601.2 million, or 41.1% of the population, defined as anyone who watched at least one online video in the past month. While the audience grew 10% YoY, the rate is lower than the 13-14% seen in 2023 and 2024. Active paid OTT subscriptions, including those via telecom bundles and aggregators, stand at 148.2 million.
The report highlights a sharp rise in Connected Television (TV) users, pegging the active base at 129.2 million or roughly 35-40 million homes, marking an 87% jump within a year. It also offers detailed insights by gender, age, media affluence, and geography, along with new sections on time spent on digital content, preferred languages, content formats, and media habits. Founder & CEO, Ormax Media, Mr. Shailesh Kapoor, noted that each edition provides deeper, actionable data for platforms, advertisers, content creators, and investors. At the same time, Head of Business Development (Streaming, TV & Brands), Ormax Media, Ms. Keerat Grewal said the expanded scope enriches understanding of content consumption and monetisation trends.
