Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi asserted that the central government is committed to making the country’s higher education system more advanced and research oriented. While inaugurating the new Nalanda University campus, he urged students to remain curious and courageous. He highlighted that Nalanda is a symbol of India’s academic heritage and vibrant cultural exchange, linking the heritage of many countries. “Our government is dedicated to enhancing the higher education system to be more advanced and research oriented. I am confident that our youth will lead the world in the future,” he stated. He expressed his vision for India to become a global hub for knowledge and education. He noted that, on average, a new university has been established weekly in the country over the past 10 years.

Before inaugurating the new campus, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi visited the Nalanda Mahavihara, a UNESCO world heritage site near the university. The educational institute was established through the Nalanda University Act in 2010 and began functioning in 2014. According to experts, the ancient Nalanda University, which existed since the fifth century, attracted students from around the world and flourished for 800 years before being destroyed by invaders in the 12th century.
