Government intends to setup the Bharat Semiconductor Research Centre in 2024

Minister of State (MoS), Mr. Rajeev Chandrasekhar, announced that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITy) will begin establishing the Bharat Semiconductor Research Centre in partnership with business and academia early next year. The minister stated that the objective of Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi is for Indians to hold leadership positions in the field of semiconductor research.

Mr. Rajeev Chandrasekhar further mentioned that a group of top minds in semiconductors around the world and country have sat together to design the Bharat Semiconductor Research Centre. The proposed Semiconductor Research Centre will be a global institution in semiconductor research. The professionals have written and assembled the design, focal area, and other details into a superior report. It is encouraging that the foundation of this institution should have been laid in 2024.

He also stated that this research centre will become one of the leading semiconductor research institutes in the next 4-5 years. The investments in the research centre will be in the form of grants or equity for Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) that will be developed at the institution.
