Government e-Marketplace marks nineth Foundation Day; records Rs. 5,40,000 crore (US$ 61.64 billion) Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) in FY25

The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) marked its ninth Foundation Day, reaffirming its role as India’s national public procurement portal since its launch in 2016, in line with Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s vision of “Minimum Government, Maximum Governance.” The platform connects sellers and service providers nationwide, including women entrepreneurs, startups, micro and small enterprises (MSEs), artisans, self-help groups (SHGs), and Divyangjans. In FY25, GeM recorded Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) transactions worth Rs. 5,40,000 crore (US$ 61.64 billion). The FY25 celebrations, themed Ease, Access, and Inclusion, saw reforms including the removal of caution money for sellers, rationalization of vendor assessment fees, and reduction of transaction charges, exempting 97% of orders. Chief Executive Officer, GeM, Mr. Mihir Kumar, said these measures will make procurement more accessible for enterprises, from tribal artisans to technology-led startups. The occasion also featured GeM Seller Samvad on August 6, 2025, in New Delhi and GeM Manthan, a dialogue programme on building a future-ready procurement system.
Over nine years, GeM has onboarded 1.5 lakh women-led enterprises, expanded into verticals such as insurance, manpower, and Mine Development & Operations (MDOs), and introduced artificial intelligence (AI)-powered tools with a multilingual Learning Management System (LMS) to support sellers in remote areas. Features such as voice-enabled navigation and region-specific training modules facilitate onboarding and transactions. By leveraging next-generation technologies, GeM is strengthening transparency, efficiency, user experience, and sustainability in procurement while advancing the Digital Bharat mission. The platform continues to focus on expanding equitable access and ensuring greater participation from diverse stakeholders in public procurement across India.
