Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi highlighted India’s rapid transformation in the food processing sector, noting that it has expanded 20 times over the past decade, driven by Central government initiatives such as the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme and mega food parks. Speaking at the inauguration of World Food India 2025 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, he said these measures have strengthened India’s role in global food security. He also underlined a major social shift, pointing out that 25 crore Indians have overcome poverty in the same period to join the neo-middle class, a dynamic segment that is fuelling rising domestic demand.
Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi emphasised that India’s diversity, strong consumer base, and innovation make it the world’s most attractive destination for food and Agri-tech investments. With the world’s third-largest start-up ecosystem, many Indian start-ups are reshaping supply chains, retail, and processing. He noted that India produces every grain, fruit, and vegetable, with food preferences varying every 100 km, giving the country a unique competitive edge. This year’s summit, he added, focuses on nutrition, reducing oil consumption, and making packaged products healthier, positioning India as a global hub for sustainable food innovation.
