Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Mr. Pralhad Joshi, highlighted Diu as a national benchmark in renewable energy adoption, with the district meeting its entire daytime electricity demand through solar power. He congratulated Diu for becoming the first district in India to fulfil its complete power requirement via solar energy, achieving an installed capacity of 11.88 megawatts (MW), comprising 9 MW ground-mounted and 2.88 MW rooftop installations. During his visit, He reviewed the progress of solar energy adoption and the implementation of the PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. He chaired a high-level meeting with senior officials of the Union Territory (UT) administration to assess current solar generation, supply frameworks, and future expansion plans. Energy Secretary of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Mr. Arun T., presented details on existing solar plants, their production capacities, and the benefits to households, noting that a significant number of families are now benefiting from solar power.
He also visited key solar energy facilities, including the 9 MW Solar Park at Fudam, a cornerstone of Diu’s sustainable energy transition. He emphasised that the Fudam Solar Park has played a vital role in reducing transmission and distribution (T&D) losses and enabling more affordable electricity tariffs for consumers. He commended the proactive leadership of the Administrator of the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu, Mr. Praful Patel, for driving this clean energy transformation. Reflecting on the long-term impact, He observed that capital investments in Diu’s renewable energy infrastructure over the past decade have been recovered through solar power supply and sales. He urged accelerated and efficient implementation of the PM-Surya Ghar Yojana to achieve complete household coverage. The visit reaffirmed the Government of India’s commitment to advancing clean energy across the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi.
