The Centre is set to unveil the Business Reforms Action Plan (BRAP) 2024, a significant regulatory overhaul aimed at enhancing the ease of doing business in India and supporting the Make in India initiative. Spearheaded by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), this new framework promises to introduce business-friendly reforms that align with key government initiatives such as Reducing Compliance Burden and decriminalization, while also integrating elements from the World Bank’s B-READY programme. Originally launched in 2014-2015, BRAP has evolved through six successful iterations, focusing on competitive federalism and evaluating states and union territories based on their reform implementations.

The 2024 plan expands its scope to cover crucial sectors like labour, environment, taxes, land administration, and utility permits, while also introducing new areas of focus such as information and communication technology (ICT) adoption. By emphasizing the reduction of approval times, promoting online service delivery, and leveraging platforms like the National Single Window System and PM Gati Shakti, BRAP 2024 aims to create a more transparent and efficient business ecosystem. The reforms include the Information Wizard, Single Window Systems, Online Building Permission Systems, and inspection and labour reforms, all designed to simplify processes and position India as a preferred global investment destination.
