India’s passenger vehicle sales hit a record high in October 2025, as festive demand, Goods and Services Tax (GST) cuts, and strong rural sentiment fuelled buying momentum. Industry estimates showed sales of around 4.7 lakh cars, sedans, and sport utility vehicles (SUVs) during the month, up 17% from October 2024, surpassing the previous record of 4.05 lakh units set in January 2025. Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, and Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) all reported their best-ever monthly sales. Maruti Suzuki’s sales rose 10.5% to 1,76,318 units, Tata Motors’ dispatches grew 27% to 61,134 units, and M&M reported its highest-ever SUV sales at 71,624 units, up 31%. Automakers said festive bookings and the impact of the GST 2.0 reforms were key drivers of demand.
Two-wheeler, commercial vehicle, and farm equipment segments also registered strong growth. TVS Motor’s domestic sales rose 8% to 4,21,631 units. At the same time, Mahindra Tractors sold 72,071 units, up 12% YoY, aided by favourable monsoon and robust rural sentiment. Toyota Kirloskar posted record sales of 40,257 units, while Hyundai reported dispatches of 53,792 units, slightly lower than last year. With consumer confidence supported by GST cuts and rising incomes, automakers expect demand to remain strong in the coming quarters, reinforcing India’s position as one of the fastest-growing automobile markets globally.
