Alcatel-Lucent seeks partners for Make-in-India after being attracted by government funding

French company Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise, which specialises in network infrastructure and cloud solutions, is searching for local partners to build its equipment in India in collaboration with local and international contract manufacturers, says a company senior officially.

The Region Head of South Asia, Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise, Mr. Prasath L. Rao mentioned that the company is exploring different options since it has different product portfolios. It will also decide the partners accordingly considering what is easily sourceable in India and with whom. He also mentioned that the company is already working with several other multinational companies in other countries like Taiwan. The company not only want to make products for India but also plans to manufacture to export. The government of India has taken initiatives to support the industry and it is encouraging.

Senior Vice-President of Sales of Asia Pacific at Alcatel-Lucent, Mr. Ilya Gutline stated that the company received a 40% rise in its revenues from India. The company is also working to expand the overall India operations, invest more towards research and development and support its supply chain.

250 people are currently employed by the company in India. Some of Alcatel's operations have already been contracted out to its Indian business partners Wipro and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). Mr. Ilya Gutline stated that one of the company's important markets in the Asia-Pacific area is India. Here, we concentrate on important areas including transportation, hospitality, healthcare, and education, among others.
