On the 10th anniversary of the 'Make in India' initiative, Minister of Commerce and Industry Mr. Piyush Goyal highlighted a significant reduction in mobile imports by around 85% since its launch. In a social media post on Wednesday, he shared that mobile imports, which stood at US$ 5.82 billion (Rs. 48,609 crore) in 2014-15, have decreased to US$ 917.3 million (Rs. 7,665 crore) in 2023-24. He also noted a 200% increase in manufacturing jobs between 2022 and 2024, with 99% of mobile phones now made in India. He celebrated 'Make in India' as a transformative force that has reshaped India's manufacturing landscape and fuelled economic growth, aligning with Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi's vision of 'Brand India' as a global symbol of innovation and quality.

The minister further highlighted key reforms introduced under the initiative, such as the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, which targets crucial sectors to boost manufacturing capabilities. The government has also improved the ease of doing business and attracted substantial Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), fostering a business-friendly environment. He emphasized efforts to strengthen the startup ecosystem and create employment opportunities. He added that 'Make in India' has laid a strong foundation for India's journey towards becoming a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by 2047, setting the stage for future industrial and economic growth.
