Tata Power Solar Systems Ltd. is part of the Tata Group and the largest integrated solar power player in the country. It has three separate business segments – manufacturing of solar cells and modules, engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) for solar power projects and other solar products. It provides customised and specialised solutions for various sectors like education, banking, healthcare, telecom, etc. and operates in both rural and urban areas. Tata Power has a capacity of 12.8 GW, of which 3.9 GW is currently from clean energy, and it aims to make 80% of its total power come from clean energy by 2030. It had a revenue of Rs. 18,035 crore (US$ 2.05 billion) in Q1 FY26.

TP Solar Limited, a subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited, has secured a Rs. 455 crore (US$ 52.52 million) contract to supply 300 MWp ALMM-certified solar modules to Maharashtra State Power Generation Company for the Mukhyamantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana 2.0. The modules will be delivered across Maharashtra this year as part of MSPGCL’s 750 MWp tender, awarded through a competitive e-Reverse Auction. |

They'll avoid new coal-based capacity, focusing on renewables and brownfield expansions like pumped storage projects. They aim to commission a 1,000 MW pumped storage project by 2027. Financing will be 70% debt and 30% equity. They target doubling revenues and profits in four years. The future of their coal-fired plant in Mumbai awaits government decisions. On April 17, 2023, Tata Power-DDL, the distribution arm of Tata Power, signed a 200-MW hydro power purchase agreement with NVVNL. NVVNL will supply hydro power for five years from May to September, starting in 2023. This collaboration will help Tata Power-DDL expand its green energy portfolio. In November 2023, Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) crossed the 1.4 GW capacity of group captive projects in last seven months. This achievement is the result of signing of Power Delivery Agreements (PDA) with various industries across segments. As announced in September 2023, Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL) will set up a 41 MW captive solar plant at Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu for TP Solar’s new greenfield 4.3 GW solar cell and module manufacturing facility located at Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. In August 2023, Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a leading player in the renewable energy sector and a subsidiary of Tata Power, signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for 9MWp on campus solar plant with Tata Motors’ Pantnagar plant in Uttarakhand. This solar plant will be the largest campus solar facility in the State. Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited commissions 110 MW solar power project for Kerala State Electricity State Board. In September 2021, Tata Power’s subsidiary TP Saurya Limited (TPSL) announced plans to set up setting up of 250 MW Grid-Connected Solar Photovoltaic Power plant in Maharashtra. In September 2021, Tata Motors inked a solar power purchase agreement with Tata Power to set up and run a 3 MW solar rooftop project at its passenger vehicle plant in Pune. In June 2021, Tata Power installed smart meters in Mumbai to offer users options to optimise their electricity consumption in real-time. In line with its commitment to provide 100% green power to Mumbai customers, in June 2021, Tata Power announced that over 37 consumers with a consumption of >19 MUs have opted for ‘Green Power’, this includes consumers from sectors such as Banks and Consumer Business Groups and IT firms. In June 2021, Tata Power Solar secured a contract worth Rs. 686 crore (US$ 93.58 million) from the NTPC to build 210 MW projects in Gujarat. In April 2021, Tata Power Solar expanded the manufacturing unit capacity by doubling its cells and modules capacity to 1,100 MW. In April 2021, Tata Power and Social Alpha announced to invest in ‘URJA’, an Industrial IOT start-up, to build energy-efficiency capabilities. The NTPC has awarded an EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) contract worth Rs. 1,200 crore (US$ 163.44 million) to Tata Power Solar for constructing a 320 MW ground-mounted solar PV plant.
